Do Good Week – Kindness Kit Packing

This year during the second annual Do Good Week, Nov. 12- 18, we went a step further. For three days in Miami, "Do Good. Live Well." promoted random acts of kindness and volunteering throughout the city. UnitedHealthcare employees and the public were invited to join us as we created compassion, spread kindness and promoted the positive! Volunteers worked assembly line style to pack supply kits that were distributed to the homeless and those affected by the recent hurricanes.

NB3FIT Soccer Clinic

UnitedHealthcare’s “Do Good. Live Well.” volunteer initiative is proud to partner with the Notah Begay III (NB3) Foundation to help support the health and fitness of Native American children across the country. As a gold sponsor of NB3FIT WEEK, Nov. 5-11, 2017, we helped engage more than 12,000 Native American youth in health and physical activity nationwide. To support this initiative, volunteers joined us at the NB3FIT Soccer Clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at W.D. Caroll Elementary School in Bernalillo, N.M. Volunteers helped run the clinic and made some facility improvements around the school.

2017 Team8 Tour – Stop #7

Over a two day span in Indianapolis, our employee volunteers worked alongside students to build a new fitness space, update the existing weight room, remodel the dorm kitchen and build a new food pantry stocked with healthy food. The CRSF hosted a fitness clinic and volunteers made a healthy dinner for participants.  Not only did our volunteers promote health and wellness throughout the community, but over our two day stop, more than 60 of them took over 127,000 steps!

Mobile Pantry & Health Fair

Since 2012, "Do Good. Live Well." has proudly sponsored Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee's mobile pantry program. The partnership has provided more than 3,000,000 healthy meals to almost 40,000 food insecure households in 33 counties. This year we're proud to team up with the UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Tennessee to sponsor the program. On Saturday, Oct. 21 our volunteers will be in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. at a free health fair and food distribution hosted by Healthy Tennessee and UnitedHealthcare. We’ll be helping to distribute food directly into the hands of our hungry neighbors.

Packing the House in Phoenix

Arizona Diamondbacks staff and UnitedHealthcare employees culminated their joint “Pack the House” initiative, which provided 49,000 meals for children in need – one meal for each seat at Chase Field.   Volunteers from UnitedHealthcare and D-Backs staff packed food to support Kitchen on the Street’s Bags of Hope program – aimed at fighting childhood hunger – at Kitchen on the Street’s headquarters. This is the fifth year of the partnership among Kitchen on the Street, the D-Backs and UnitedHealthcare, which resulted in 208,000 meals for hungry children in the Valley.

#24 Playground Build with help from the Patriots!

Bridge Boston Charter School
More than 200 volunteers from the Boston area, the New England Patriots and UnitedHealthcare will come together to build an engaging and safe play space at the Bridge Boston Charter School. The 2,500 sq. ft. playground will help enhance vulnerable children's health, achievement levels and overall well-being. nearly 300 children will have an opportunity to use this new playground every year!

Day of Service and Play with the Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers and UnitedHealthcare teamed up for the fifth annual “Day of Service and Play.” This year’s project took place at Allesandro Elementary Schools where the LA Conservation Corps and volunteers put the finishing touches on the school’s new walking path, including adding signage and painting images and motivational phrases on the path. The path will allow students to be active and work towards the goal of joining Allesandro’s "100 Mile Club." Representatives from Playworks were also onsite and brought the power of play to the students by playing four square, catch and dodgeball.

2017 Team8 Tour – Stops 5 & 6

New York City & Jersey City
Our  fifth and sixth stop of the 2017 Team8 Tour takes us to New York, N.Y. and Jersey City, N.J. Sept. 18-20 to provide some much needed support for two deserving organizations:
  • Bronx Academy of Letters students need a safe place with more access to fitness opportunities and healthier food options. In the Bronx Sept. 18-19 volunteers will help build a new fitness room, assist with various facility improvements and help host a "Fun and Fit" clinic with sports stations and a healthy take-home dinner for participants.
  • Jackie Robinson RBI and the Jersey City Police Department are hosting the Badges for Baseball Celebration Day in Jersey City Sept. 20 where 60-70 local youth will play in a quick ball tournament hosted by "Do Good. Live Well." Badges for Baseball is a crime prevention/mentoring program that uses sports to address the problems of at-risk youth in underserved communities. With our funding and support, volunteers will help with event logistics and provide a healthy dinner to wrap up a fun day.

Pack the House in Phoenix

As part of our mission to fight hunger, “Do Good. Live Well.” and the Arizona Diamondbacks teamed up to support Kitchen on the Street’s Bags of Hope program, which feeds more than 900 hungry children in the Phoenix area each weekend. We’re going to “Pack the House” for the fifth season in a row and provide 49,000 meals to kids in Phoenix – that’s one meal for each seat at Chase Field! On Wednesday, Aug. 9 volunteers from UnitedHealthcare participated in the first packing party of 2017 during the D-Backs game against the LA Dodgers.

Granting an Imagination Playground to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harlingen

As part of our ongoing effort to Build Healthier Communities and decrease obesity, "Do Good. Live Well." is teaming up with KaBOOM! to give an Imagination Playground to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harlingen. An Imagination Playground is a mobile play system made up of big, blue blocks which come in many unique shapes and sizes. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Harlingen chose this play system because of its dual ability to provide physical play, as well as STEM learning component. More than 1,000 Club members will have get to use the Imagination Playground each year! Volunteers from UnitedHealthcare made upgrades to the Club, including lots of fun painting projects, in preparation for the unveiling of the Club's new Imagination Playground at their annual Back to School event.
