Food Packing with the LA Kings, Los Angeles, CA

UnitedHealthcare employees and LA Kings staff and friends joined forces on Tuesday, March 26 at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The volunteers packed more than 27,000 pounds of produce in under 2 hours. The produce, consisting of apples and carrots, was immediatley distributed to many local organizations including seven elementary schools, homeless shelters, churches, rehabilitation centers and organziations that support senior citizens.

Packing Hi-Five Kids Packs, Orlando, Fla.

Nearly 200 Orlando Magic players, dancers and other employees from the organization joined 100 UnitedHealthcare employees to pack Hi-Five Kids Packs for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. The athletes and employees worked together to fight hunger and help the food bank provide 13,500 Hi-Five Packs to hungry children in the tri-county area.

Polar Plunge, Minneapolis, Minn.

"Do Good. Live Well-ers" were "Freezin' for a Reason" when they plunged into the icy cold waters of Lake Calhoun on Mar. 2, 2013 in Minneapolis. This event benefitted Special Olympics Minnesota which offers over 7,000 athletes the opportunity to participate in athlete leadership and healthy athletes programs, work at the Special Olympics Minnesota state office, and best of all, train and compete in a variety of sports all year.

Wisconsin Feeding America Food Banks Forms State Association, Milwaukee, Wis.

Wisconsin Feeding America food banks have formed the Wisconsin Association of Feeding America Food Banks (“State Association”). This new association will support and enhance the work of the Feeding America food banks in Wisconsin with the goal of creating public/private partnerships to help end hunger in Wisconsin, raising public awareness about the issue of hunger, and identifying additional statewide food and revenue sources. The formation of the State Association has been made possible from a $100,000 donation from UnitedHealthcare.

Kicking Off Facility Improvement Project with Volunteer Event , Bronx, N.Y.

The Children’s Health Fund’s South Bronx Health Center kicked off a significant facility improvement project made possible by nearly $70,000 in funding from UnitedHealthcare.  The renovations will enable the Health Center to serve more people in the community and enhance the overall patient experience.

Playground Build Day, Dallas, Texas

Volunteers from UnitedHealthcare and Dallas residents built a new playground at the Burgundy Hmoeowners Association. The new playground’s design is based on drawings created by Dallas children who participated in a “design day” event.

December 1 & 6, 2012

Fitness Zone , Miami, Fla.

UnitedHealthcare employees and representatives from the Trust for Public Land participated in day of landscaping and attended a ribbon cutting for the new Fitness Zone at the Marva Y. Bannerman Park. The Fitness Zone consists of several pieces of easy-to-use outdoor gym equipment which offer a new set of healthy activities, available to everyone who visits the park.

November 17 & 20, 2012

Active Living Trail, Atlanta, Ga.

UnitedHealthcare employees and representatives from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the City of Atlanta beautified Little Nancy Creek Park and then attended a ribbon cutting for the new Active Living Trail in the park. The nearly half-mile long path features multiple fitness stations and signs which tell users how to incorporate healthy behaviors, including nutrition-based education, into their lives.

Fighting to End Hunger, Minneapolis, Minn.

For the second year in a row the Minnesota Vikings, Second Harvest Heartland and UnitedHealthcare teamed up for the “Fight to End Hunger” which helped tackle senior hunger in the Twin Cities. UnitedHealthcare employees joined forces to contribute more than 800 volunteer hours in support of the distribution of 32,000 meals to our neighbors in need.
